Agreement for indentured servitude between Patrick Larkin and Thomas Blood, 1766. Agreements like this – to work for seven years for a master, often in exchange for passage across the Atlantic – were common in colonies like Virginia. This agreement came late in the history of indentured servitude – by 1766, most labor on Virginia plantations was done by enslaved Africans.
