Photographs taken during regattas on Independence Day in New York City on July 4, 1859/1860. Each scene includes its original caption. The regattas were some of the earliest sporting events to be photographed in the United States. The photographs were taken by William Notman, John P. Soule, and possibly more unidentified photographers and almost all of them published by E. & H. T. Anthony & Company. All images from the New York Public Library.
