Hi there, great to hear you’ve chosen to study History! I’d say the main thing is to really feel free to enjoy your first year - it (usually) doesn’t count towards your final degree, so be sure to partake in the great social life uni has to offer and to be inventive with your module choices. Most universities offer lots of module choice in first year, and it’s a great time to try some history you’re unfamiliar with, or even take modules in other departments to expand your academic studies.
It may be daunting at first when you have to learn how to handle historiography and, later on, primary source analysis. There will be a learning curve, so don’t worry if your marks are initially not what you want them to be or what you’re used to getting. Also, be sure to go see your personal tutor or seminar tutor in office hours if you need guidance - it can often really help put your mind at ease.
Overall, try to enjoy your first year and make the most of university - it can be some of the best years of your life and a truly rewarding educational experience.
